My teaching style encourages correct alignment and posture, as well as precision, flow, and breath--tenets which are crucial to Pilates and carry over to all of our daily activities.
Empathy, sensitivity, variety, and fun are high priorities for me in Pilates and all I do!
I am certified by Body Arts and Science International (BASI) as an instructor through the Comprehensive Teacher Training Program and I teach group classes and privates at People's Movement in Oakland, CA.
I pursued theatre, dance, and gymnastics from a young age and received my BA in Dramatic Art with a minor in Dance from the University of California, Berkeley. During that time, I studied the Martha Graham modern dance technique. Ms. Graham was one of Joseph Pilates most famous students. They clearly learned a lot from each other, as their disciplines have remarkable overlap! (Graham devotees who have practiced Pleadings will have no problem with the Pilates Roll Up!)
After college, I began acting, singing, and dancing my way all over California in plays for young people about health education. Other undertakings included film, performance art (mainly in places where no one had asked to see it), designing health curriculum, directing, and writing. I fell in love with Pilates while living in Southern California, finding it to be an invigorating, inspiring and safe workout while I recuperated from foot surgery.
I believe in the power of mind-body pursuits and artistic expression to transform individuals and communities and try every day to contribute something positive to the world around me. I strive to be careful, yet challenging and creative in my instruction.I also love cooking, hiking, exploring, and my super dog, Miles!
Please see my Classes and Services page for more information. I look forward to working with you!
